Early viewing

Potential buyers of Fujitsu’s semiconductor plant have been visiting the County Durham site. Negotiations are at an early stage. The plant will close in December unless a new owner is found.

Projected funding

The Printed Circuit Interconnection Federation, the UK trade association for printed circuit board manufacturers, is seeking European funding for two research and development projects into materials and manufacturing processes.

HUD flies in 737

Marconi Electronic Systems’ new HUD2020 head-up display system had its first flight in an American Airlines’ Boeing 737 last month. The US airline has ordered 100 systems and has options on 400 more. The first HUD2020 enters service in early 1999.

Slovenia signs

British defence procurement minister Lord Gilbert and his Slovenian counterpart this week signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between the two countries’ defence industries. Slovenia has strengths in vehicle retrofitting and electro-optics which the British may be keen to tap into.

Final sale

British Aerospace Regional Aircraft has announced the sale of the last three Advanced Turboprop (ATP) airliners from the production line. Two of the aircraft went to British Worlds Airlines and the other was bought by Sun-Air of Scandinavia.
