Siebe’s new division

Diversified engineer Siebe has formed a new division, Siebe Pneumatics, consisting of UK-based CompAir Maxam, CompAir Climax in France and Watts FluidAir of the US. CompAir Maxam is to be renamed Maxam Pneumatics.

Cork buys US firm

US-based Burnham Products has been acquired by Cork Industries, the £47m turnover engineering group, for £10.5m. It offers cross-selling opportunities for Cork’s UK business, Baxter, Woodhouse & Taylor, which makes flexible ducting.

German parent company BDL Masschinbau has taken a 100% stake in subsidiary BDL Drum Motors, based in Corby.

Black box research

Ford’s Visteon Automotive Systems has formed a 50:50 partnership with Cambridge-based automotive electronics and software engineer Pi Technology. The joint venture will research future powertrain control systems.

Tooled up

St Helens-based steel profiles maker PP Profiles has invested £145,000 in new equipment at its Bold Industrial Park site. The investment includes an 84-inch surface grinder and a profile cutting machine.

Patent on Internet

The UK Patent Office, which has just abolished application fees, has put the application form to file a British patent (form 1/77) onto the Internet. The Patent Office website can be accessed via hotlinks on The Engineer’s website, www.theengineer.co.uk.
