Bogie recovery

Derby-based Adtranz has won a £17m contract to refurbish and reframe bogies for London Underground’s District Line. Adtranz will supply 900 new flexible bogie frames fitted with refurbished equipment, plus 12 complete bogies.

Hunter adds dryers

Tyneside-based Domnick Hunter, manufacturer of filtration and purification equipment, has acquired Canadian gas and compressed air dryer manufacturer XEBEC for £1.53m.

Lionheart takes bath

McKechnie has sold its Birmingham-based bathroom products manufacturing business, Gelson, to Knutsford, Cheshire-based bathroom accessories maker Lionheart, in a deal said to be worth £700,000. There will be no job losses even though the business will be moved to Andover, said the companies.

Second drillship order

Belfast shipyard Harland and Wolff has won a contract to build a second deep water drillship of the Glomar 456 design from Global Marine of the US.

Matthey expands

Johnson Matthey is to expand its Widnes, Cheshire plant with a £3m investment in a new manufacturing and technical support facility. It will become the company’s primary electronic materials production site in Europe.
