DHD Engineering of Wrexham which has engineering operations in Deeside, Nottingham, Hull and Rugby has acquired D&J Fabrications of Atherton, Greater Manchester.

Wyko saves Kelly

Wyko Group has acquired the assets and electrical service operations of West Lothian-based Charles Kelly from the provisional liquidator, saving 40 jobs at the firm. It will become part of Wyko Electro Mechanical Services.

Pay crunch to come

Pay deals will fall next year if the recession bites, according to research group Industrial Relations Services. It said pay settlements are running at 3.5% for the past year after increasing from 3% last autumn.

Jetting away

British Fitting Group is to sell its High Pressure Water Jetting business to current and former management via an off-the-peg company, Great Interest, for £4m. For the six months to 30 June, HPWJ made an operating profit of £100,000 on turnover of £7.5m. Net assets at that date were £2.5m.

Bodycote takes RWT

Bodycote International has acquired heat treatment and metal jointing firm Rheintal Werkstoff Technik for £5.3m. In the year to 31 August, RWT reported pre-tax profits of £815,000 on sales of £2.8m.

Massey lay-offs

Massey Ferguson, part of US group Agco, is to lay off 400 workers at its tractor manufacturing plant in Banner Lane, Coventry, by the end of the year.

Brent Spar top chop

Shell is to start removing the top of the Brent Spar in November so the platform can be taken ashore in Norway and recycled. The move will be the first stage in the dismantling plan for the 14,000-tonne structure.
