Caravan jobs saved

Yorkshire-based caravan manufacturer ABI Leisure which went into receivership at the end of March, has been acquired by specialist investor Klesch Capital Partners. It plans to add to the 140-strong workforce and build up production to 15,000 a year.

Generics build-up

Cambridge-based business and technology consultancy Scientific Generics has acquired a 55% stake in Catella Generics, the Swedish battery specialist, for an undisclosed sum.

BSI goes big time

The British Standards Institution (BSI) has made its first acquisition. The £36.5m purchase of inspection company Inspectorate from private equity firm Electra Fleming doubles BSI’s commercial sales to some £160m a year, and makes it the largest standards body in the world. Inspectorate recorded sales of £66.81m last year.

Lola growth plans

Lola Cars International, the race car manufacturer, is to build a £3.5m wind tunnel test facility for half scale race and road car models. It also plans to expand its manufacturing facilities at Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire to produce advanced composites. It will double the workforce by creating up to 40 new jobs.

Castor groups merge

The Castor Company (British Castors, Global Castors and JBD Plastics) and the Revvo Castor Company (UK and US) have merged to form Castors International with a combined turnover of £25m.

Tyne Tees wins refit

Tyne Tees Dockyard has won a contract for the refit of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary oiler and replenishment ship Fort George.

Pilot project

British Aerospace’s Australian subsidiary has won a £40m, 10-year contract to train pilots for the Australian Defence Force.
