Celab acquires

Celab has acquired the assets of Bexhill’s General Power Electronics, in receivership. Celab, of Bordon, Hampshire, which makes power conversion products, said the acquisition would develop its contract electronic manufacturing capability.

Job for Vosper

Vosper Thornycroft Controls has won a contract to provide a gas turbine controller and a monitoring system for a Ukrainian-built roll-on/roll-off ship being refitted for the US Military Sealift Command.

Rolls teams up

A joint venture between Rolls-Royce and two Jordanian partners has won its first order for electrical distribution equipment, with work for Rolls-Royce Transmission & Distribution at Tyneside and Jordan-based company Jesco.

MDC in Shell link

MDC Technology of Middlesbrough has formed a partnership with Shell to install operational data supervision, which makes real-time process and laboratory data available to staff throughout the organisation, at all the oil company’s sites worldwide.

Coal adviser

The DTI has appointed International Mining Consultants to advise on the prospects for coal in the Government’s review of energy sources for power generation, which is expected to report by 30 June.

Manpower seer

There are bright prospects for manufacturing in the second quarter of this year, according to a survey by Manpower. The employment agency’s Survey of Employment Prospects forecasts strong demand especially from automotive and general engineering.
