Keith Orrell-Jones, chief-executive of Blue Circle Industries is to take over as non-executive chairman of Smiths Industries, the avionics, medical systems and industrial group, from Sir Roger Hurn in November this year.

Hurn delayed his move to chairman of GEC for a year until Smiths could find a replacement.

Jim Foxall, former senior GKN executive has succeeded Michael Stone as managing director of Beck and Pollitzer Engineering. Stone is retiring after 21 years at the company.

At the same time, Gresham Trust, the private equity house, has invested £7.2m in the company in a £23m buy-in/management buyout following the sale of the business by Schroder Ventures and management. As part of the deal the remaining key managers are making a significant investment in the business.

Brian Harris has been appointed managing director of engineering consultancy Eutech, a subsidiary of ICI. Harris was previously vice-president of operations for ICI’s International Explosives business.

Seaward Electronic, Durham County-based test and measurement solution provider, has appointed Stuart Wilson as technical support manager.

Philip Hyde has been appointed as the managing director of Miletrian Engineering.

Shefcut Tool & Engineering, a division of Cogsdill-Nuneaton, manufacturer of precision reaming and fine boring tools, has appointed Bob Johnson as its general manager.
