Professor Merrick Taylor OBE has been appointed as the new president of the Institution of Engineering Designers. Taylor, who will serve in the role for two years, has held a number of company directorships including chairman of Mayflower Automotive Products, chairman and chief executive of Mayflower subsidiary Motor Panels Group, and managing director of Motor Panels (Coventry). He has also served as chairman of a number of Design Council committees and as chairman of the DTI Consumer Task Force. Taylor was awarded an industrial fellowship by De Montfort University in 1993.
Norbert Hoogen has been appointed manufacturing director of automotive powertrain company Cosworth Technology. He joins from Heidel Group.
Michael Bonsignore, chief executive officer of aerospace-to-automotive products producer Honeywell, has been given the additional role of chairman of the board. He became chief executive of Honeywell in December 1999 upon the completion of the merger between Honeywell and AlliedSignal.
Bonsignore graduated from the US Naval Academy in 1963, joined Honeywell in 1969 and held a variety of positions before becoming chairman and chief exec in 1993.

Robert Lench, chairman and managing director of industrial fastener supplier Thomas William Lench, has been elected president of the West Midlands region of the Engineering Employers’ Federation.
West Midlands-based Thomas William Lench is one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of nuts and bolts.
John Stevens has been appointed technical director of consulting engineer WSP Group. He joins from Halcrow Waterman, where he was board director responsible for the Glasgow and Falkirk offices.
Precision engineering group Accura has appointed John Walford as managing director of its national machining services division. He was previously with Orbit Precision Machining and Polamco of Bath.
