Vauxhall has appointed Christopher Gubbey as director of manufacturing for its Luton plant. He was previously operations director at GKN Hardy Spicer.
Gubbey’s appointment follows the retirement of John Barber and ensures him a position on Vauxhall’s board of directors.
Gubbey trained at Hatfield Polytechnic in production engineering before joining Ford, where he became production manager, final assembly, at the Southampton plant.
He later moved to Toyota Motor Manufacturing as manager, assembly operations, and helped to start up the Burnaston site. Leaving as assistant general manager, he became operations director at GKN, where he was responsible for three plants.
* Rolls-Royce Transmission & Distribution, the Industrial Power Group division that covers Reyrolle, Peebles Electric and R-R Industrial Controls, has promoted three senior managers.
Bernard Hughes, formerly director of Reyrolle’s switchgear unit, is project director of the Business Improvement Initiative for the transmission and distribution division.
Ian Lister is now director of strategic sourcing. He was previously director of regional operations for Reyrolle Projects.
Malcolm Queen, previously IT systems manager for Reyrolle, is now IT manager, and will develop Rolls-Royce’s partnership with the computer services company, EDS.
Malcolm Noyce is business development director at the Transport Research Laboratory. He comes from consulting engineer, the Symons Group where he was group main board director.
Geoff Taylor has been appointed engineering and projects manager for Hydratight’s new subsea systems division. He has managed other projects for the company.
The Heating and Ventilating Contractors’ Association has appointed a chief executive from industry to turn the organisation into a more commercial operation. Reg Bettridge was general manager of Hayes Information Services.
Howard Potter has been appointed as Vision Engineering’s international metrology manager.
Roland Thomas is to take up the new position at Moldflow Europe of vice-president of research and development.
