Former Peter Brotherhood apprentice Ian Arbon has returned to the UK-based turbine and compressor manufacturer, as managing director.

He succeeds Wes Schuster who is returning to the US with parent company Thermo-Electron. He will be involved in the strategic management of Brotherhood as the company’s chief executive.

Arbon, who left Brotherhood in 1975, was recently running his own engineering consultancy business in Scotland. Prior to that he was managing director of compressor manufacturer Caledonian Compressors, a company he founded and then sold to Motherwell Bridge Group.

* Stone & Webster Engineering, the Milton Keynes engineering and construction company, has appointed chemical engineer Graham Rutherford as chairman, a new position.

Previously he was the managing director of the company, which he has been with for 33 years.

James Glass now becomes managing director and chief executive officer. He has been with the company since 1970. Glass was vice-president and director of Stone & Webster Engineering Corporation, Texas, the headquarters of its process business division, where he was responsible for world-wide operations.

Weir Group has appointed Nick Martin as its business development manager to work on its acquisition drive. He joins from Christian Salvesen, where he worked for 18 years – the past six years were spent with the group’s business development team.

Martin will be based in Glasgow and his role at Weir will be to help ident-ify, evaluate and plan potential purchases in the UK and overseas.

Frost Electroplating has appointed John Crompton as production director. The post has been occupied in recent years by managing director William Southall.

Compton is joining the company from its customer Dynacast, where he was managing director.

Andrew Moore has recently been appointed as the head of the Manufacturing Business Improvement div-ision of Eutech Engineering Solutions, which is a subsidiary of ICI. He joins the company from Coopers & Lybrand, and he has acquired more than eight years’ management consultancy experience in sectors including chemicals, plastics and aerospace.
