One of GKN’s longest serving executives, Trevor Bonner, is to retire early, at the end of next year. As managing director of GKN’s automotive and agritechnical products, and a main board director, Bonner’s place will gradually be taken by Sarkis Kalyandjian, now chief executive of the driveline division.

Kalyandjian will join the board and share control of the automotive business with Bonner, 54, while retaining management of the driveline business.

* ICI’s move into speciality chemicals has produced a new executive management team to answer to the main board.

Two members join from Unilever: Jim Kennedy, executive vice-president for National Starch, and Dr John McAdam, executive vice-president for Quest, part of the business that Charles Miller Smith, ICI chief executive, used to manage.

Richard Stillwell is executive vice-president for Industrial Specialities, giving up his responsibility for safety, health and environment to Paul Dreschler, and public affairs to Rona Fairhead.

Dreschler, previously chief executive officer of ICI Polyester, also takes on Technology, and Rob Margetts, board director and executive vice-president of Industrial Chemicals, adds Polyester to his portfolio.

Alcan Aluminium’s reorganisation of its European businesses into Alcan Europe means changes to its British operations. David Edwards, now vice-president of manufacturing in Europe and managing director of Alcan Rolled Products UK, becomes vice-president of Eurosheet. David Ahl, a senior executive at Alcan Aluminium’s head office in Montreal, is to move to the UK as vice-president of Eurocentre Foil and Foil Products.

Anti-missile decoy manufacturer Chemring has appointed Peter Molony chief executive. He replaces Philip Billington, who resigned two months ago. Molony has been finance director at Rolls-Royce.

Sira Group has made Campbell Dixon, formerly divisional managing director at engineering systems specialist B Elliott, to run its new measurement and inspection business.

Dr Jeremy Wheeler, head of Insulation Group at GEC-Alsthom’s Engineering Research Centre, is to be visiting professor in design at Leicester University.

Ingersoll-Dresser Pumps has appointed Owen Turner its vice-president, Aftermarket, for Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Consultant Mott MacDonald has appointed new directors. Robin Whalley, managing director of Mott management, joins Keith Howells, director of Environment and Water Resources on the board.

Huco Engineering has a new managing director in Ray Buttifant, from Huco Engineering Components.

The British Plastics Federation has appointed Peter Davis, chief executive of the Industry Council for Packaging and the Environment, as director-general.
