A new densitometer offers petrochemical companies the prospect of bigger profits from sales of a valuable industry by-product.

The density of ethylene in its super-critical state can now be measured to what is claimed is twice the accuracy previously possible, thanks to the new 7812-5 densitometer from Solartron.

The 7812-5 is a vibrating cylinder densitometer. The cylinder is inserted into the material flow and maintained at its resonant frequency by means of a closed loop magnetic pick-up and feedback. The device fine-tunes measurement accuracy.

To maximise accuracy, the unit is installed deep into the pipeline. It then outputs density as a proportional frequency signal.
