Details of Millennium Point, a £112m scheme in Digbeth, east Birmingham to promote scientific and technological innovation, were released this week. The project has an interactive science and technology museum; a Technology Innovation Centre, to be based around the University of Central England’s relocated schools of science and information technology, which will undertake R&D and technology transfer and will support local firms; The University of the First Age, for teenagers; and shops and cafes. The project, due to open in September 2001, is funded by the EU, Millennium Commission and English Partnerships,with sponsors including Jaguar, Rover, Dunlop and BICC.
