Six groups of contractors submitted nine proposals to Shell for disposing of the defunct Brent Spar by this week’s deadline.

Two of the 11 proposals that the oil company shortlisted in January – the Kvaerner Stolt Seaway Alliance’s plan to convert the Spar hull into floating dry-dock gates and Wood-GMC’s idea to use the topsides as a training centre – have been dropped. Both groups sent in other proposals, however, along with Brown & Root Energy Services, McAlpine Doris, Thyssen Stahlunion and Amec Process and Energy.
