Building materials manufacturer Polypipe is on the acquisition trail after recording sales of £122.2m, up 2.2%, in the half year to 31 December 1998. Pre-tax profits climbed 1.7% to £12.2m.

The company has already been buying at a steady rate over the second half of last year, snapping up Domus Ducting, a ventilation firm, and entering the conservatory roof systems market with the acquisition of Rickmans. And in Germany it bought Pagette, a supplier of bathroom products.

‘Access to new markets has provided for continued growth,’ chairman Kevin McDonald said. He predicts ‘another strong year’ for Polypipe in 1999.
