Invitations go out for the open networks

The open network theme is to be pushed by Omron during the Control & Instrumentation show (NEC, 28 30 April).

Real-life applications will highlight advances in temperature and process monitoring and show the benefits of data collection, analysis and distribution over open networks.

Omron PC modules, integrated within a racked PLC control system, make it possible to carry out mathematically intensive realtime control.

Multizone temperature controllers use colour graphics so operators can identify process variables.

Pneumatic fieldbus systems are restricted by the use of manifold valve banks with a maximum capacity of 32 outputs providing up to 50% loading. Further restrictions include valve sizes and the need for additional sensor input modules.

Rexroth says its Valve Driver System eliminates these problems and operates on any open fieldbus protocol.

Customers can save up to 60% on installation costs.

Klockner-Moeller is chopping 40% off the cost of its most popular compact PLC with a starter pack that includes the PS4-150 PLC, manual, simulator, battery, programming cable and Sucosoft programming software.

The 24V DC version has 16 inputs and 14 digital outputs. The multi-voltage single-phase version has 16 inputs and eight relay outputs.

A powerful short-wave infra-red oven provides rapid cure of passivating treatment used to seal an inert, corrosion-resistant lead/tin coating on mild steel strip which is then deep drawn for use in car fuel tanks, gas meters and similar environments.

British Steel, Cookley installed the oven in a £2.3m upgrade of an existing coating line.

Oven supplier Heraeus built the oven from parts of a disused infra-red oven at another British Steel site.
