A European aerospace study group has published its findings on how to reduce noise generated by aircraft and their engines. The Fanpac programme, which focused on fan noise, identified three main tasks: the development of acoustic liners, rig testing, and establishing computer models for predicting fan tone noise. A proposal for a follow-on programme is to be submitted for EU approval. Participants in the programme included Rolls-Royce, Shorts and the universities of Salford and Southampton.
