An investigation into the contamination of two Dounreay workers with plutonium has established that they received radiation doses to the surface of their bones that were nearly eight and nine times higher than the legal limit.

One man received an estimated 3,790 millisieverts and the other 4,400mSv -compared with the statutory ceiling of 500mSv. A third worker received a bone surface dose of 780mSv.
