GEC’s chairman and managing director will be facing each other across the House of Lords in the next parliamentary session after last week’s elevation of George Simpson to be a Labour Party working peer.

Lord Prior, GEC’s chairman, became a peer under after Cabinet posts in Employment and Northern Ireland. ‘We don’t see there being any contradiction,’ said a GEC spokesman. ‘George Simpson will speak on behalf of industry, and his first priority is to GEC.’
