Rolls-Royce has sacked five workers following an investigation into abuse of its e-mail system. The company said 14 people were originally suspended for sending rude jokes and cartoons through internal e-mail last month.
The company said regular warnings were given and the consequences of being caught were made clear.
`It’s not so much the material but that it was brought in from outside. That’s the most serious subject,’ said a spokesman.
There was a danger that viruses could be introduced into the company’s IT system, he added.
The sacked workers were considered to have played a `more serious’ role in abusing the system, the spokesman said.
In February, seven workers at AEA Technology resigned over misuse of the company’s internet system.
