West Midland industrial equipment repairer Dowding & Mills snapped up three engineering services firms from Rolls-Royce last week.

The companies, Peebles Field Services, Peebles Field Operations and Rotterdam-based Van Wijnsberge, employ a total of 133 people.

Terms were not released, although net assets acquired amounted to £1.3m.

Brian Gibbon, manufacturing director of the group’s electrical services division, said the deal was part of Dowding & Mills’s strategy to expand its expertise in large electrical machines such as turbo and hydro generators.

The acquisition of Peebles Field Operations adds to Dowding’s design and maintenance business.

Williams de Broe analyst Nigel Harrison welcomed the acquisition in Holland, saying that Dowding’s decision to acquire there showed it was ‘not running away from the Continent’ after problems selling its German operation earlier this year.

Dowding shares closed down 3.5p at 40p.
