A quick offshore turnaround has been achieved by Rochester Instrument Systems, when it replaced the main station annunciator system on Amoco’s natural gas platform in the Leman gas field, 30 miles offshore from Great Yarmouth.

As part of a safety case and risk analysis review, essential control functions and monitoring have now been moved to a safe area. The existing annunciator also had no repeat output facilities, making it impractical to duplicate almost 200 alarms in the new control centre through a hard-wired system.

The main station annunciator is located on the platform control panel. Also used in the system are Rochester’s latest version of its microprocessor alarm and event logging system, MPAS 90.

Systems were supplied and installed in just four weeks to tie in with the annual platform shutdown.
