Aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal this week sailed into Rosyth dockyard on the Firth of Forth for a multi-million pound refit. The carrier’s flight deck area will be extended by removing the Sea Dart missile system and creating extra space to operate more RAF Harrier GR7 aircraft to join the carrier’s Sea Harriers. The work could be worth £100m to yard owner Babcock Rosyth. But the contract’s value will be reduced by an incentive plan whereby savings from Babcock Rosyth’s productivity and efficiency improvements are shared with the MoD.
