Engineering companies in Scotland are being hit hard by the soaring pound, with export orders down across all sectors, according to the quarterly review by Scottish Engineering.

But Howard Jordan, chief executive of the trade association, said that Scottish companies were still buoyant. Order intake for the three months to March was up, primarily due to orders from within the UK.

‘Despite a substantial decrease in export orders throughout the engineering industry, the overall level continues its upward trend in all areas except the foundry sector,’ Jordan said.
