Clamp-on is key feature of flowmeter

Clamp-on ultrasonic flowmeters are cheaper to install than ultrasonic or electromagnetic systems that involve costly interruptions to pipework and processes, says Platon of its non-intrusive flowmeter, the KAT.

The pre-calibrated KAT fits on pipes up to 100mm diameter, and is self-adjusting to the liquid being measured.

It emits ultrasonic beams which penetrate the pipe and liquid upstream and downstream, measuring the differential transit time between the two.

Proximity switches that respond only to magnetic targets provide simple, dependable and accurate monitoring of piston positions within pneumatic cylinders as well as general-purpose use.

IFM’s solid-state design avoids the problems of reed switches and Hall-effect devices such as vibration and bounce, the company says.
