Siemens has confirmed that it is looking at purchasing Rolls-Royce’s steam turbines business Parsons.

`We’re just at the stage of taking a look to see if it’s something we want to go further,’ said a spokeswoman.

Rolls-Royce last week reduced the number of immediate redundancies at Parsons by 67 to 333.

The 333 staff will go at the end of the month. A further 400 redundancies have been tabled, depending on who buys the business.

Barney McGill, Confederation of Shipbuilding and Engineering Union convenor at Parsons, said of the move: `It’s a fair deal. There are further reviews and discussions taking place.’
