Specialist engineering and chemicals group Ascot reported pre-tax profits up 6% to £14.1m this week for the first half of 1998. Turnover on continuing operations was slightly up at £97.9m, following the disposal of seven businesses last year.

Specialist engineering, which accounts for about two-thirds of Ascot’s sales, saw profits increase by 15%, driven by gains in the group’s refrigeration business.

Floform lost £200,000 as a result of the prolonged strike at its major customer General Motors.
