Birmingham-based Serck Heat Transfer is to supply cooling equipment for Alstom’s 12-cylinder RK215 locomotive engines. Serck worked with Alstom’s Ruston division to develop the bespoke heat exchangers which cool the engine’s lubricating oil. Serck’s new high-efficiency finned secondary surface is to be used in the design. The first contracts for the engines include an order for 30, which will power Syrian Rail’s dual cabin 140km/h diesel-electric locomotives. Ten more are heading to Sri Lanka.
