The Cordis RTD-News service on the World Wide Web is available on http://www.cordis.lu/ using browser software such as Netscape.
Typically a company will want to pull up details of current programmes – that is, those with money still available. This can be done under subject index codes such as renewable energy/wave power, which narrow the search.
This will not only identify the relevant programmes but provide all the background information about its aims, including any contact details.
Once a business has found a relevant programme it can search to see if there has been a call for tender through the daily updated news database. If there has, and the company wants to participate, it tracks down partners.
The partners search database can be used to see who else is looking in this area – or companies can even look at previous participators in the project database and approach them. If this is successful, contact details for likely partners will be shown.
When potential partners have been established, the next stage is to put a proposal to the commission for funding. The more the applicant can show an understanding of the programme’s aims, the more chance of success.
To help out, details of the aims, an information pack, and even the application form, can be downloaded. The results database gives an idea of what research has been done.
