A Beka batch controller is helping Hampshire Chemicals to monitor effluent discharges into the Tees Estuary.

The site, at Seal Sands, involves the production of a number of speciality chemicals. Various aqueous effluent streams are mixed in a sump before being discharged into the saltwater estuary under strict conditions authorised by the Environment Agency.

The Beka BA550 batch controller periodically diverts a sample from each effluent transfer to a sample container for analysis.

Powered from a local 24V supply, the unit scales the 4-20mA output from an Endress + Hauser flowmeter to provide running total and rate displays.
