Suppliers to the telecoms industry are among the UK’s fastest growing privately owned companies, far outstripping growth in general manufacturing.
Manufacturers of electronics for the global telecoms industry have grown by as much as 59% in the past five years, says a survey, compiled by accountant Price Waterhouse, The Independent 100.
The most successful manufacturer in the report was ACW Technology, which makes electronics to order for small and medium sized companies in the telecoms and consumer electronics field. It was 22nd overall.
Chris Woods, managing director of ACW Technology, said the company had paid particular attention to the management of its materials supply chain and had invested heavily in IT.
Of the 100 companies rated by Price Waterhouse, nine came from general manufacturing and 22 from electrical and telecoms.
The latter included dealerships, a fact reflected in the 116% growth rate of the winner, mobile phone distributor European Telecom.
Newport Technology, a Milton Keynes electronics firm spawned from ex-Oxford Instruments staff, said predicting the significance of battery moderators for back-up systems had contributed to 49% growth over five years.
