Sun’s JavaStation, the company’s revolutionary thin client network computer, is now shipping in volume. Entry level price is just £500 – yet with 100MHz CPU and 6Mb RAM.

It uses the small footprint JavaOS operating system, along with a HotJava browser – which accesses all applications from the server, instead of storing them. Watch out for applications.

Sun’s Enterprise range now spans desktop devices (JavaStation to UltraSparc workstations), Netra j (for Java) servers and the huge Ultra Enterprise servers – just launched is the Ultra Enterprise 10000 – 64 SMP ability.

* Sun’s WorkShop enterprise development environment for C/C++ and Fortran has just been uprated. There’s now graphical source and class browsers, integrated editors, run time memory error checking and instant zero-to-GUI application development.
