Gravurequip has recently designed a printing machine to accompany its already successful automatic balloon feeder. With the help of Festo it designed a machine to silk screen print latex balloons.

Built around the control of a Festo 18 station valve terminal with integrated PLC (type SF3) it allowed the system to be programmed and fine tuned to its customer’s requirements while keeping pneumatic and electrical connections to a minimum.

The balloons are inflated to a controlled size and then tested so that each individual balloon can withstand the pressure of the print head operation. Any balloon bursting under a print head reduces the quality of print on subsequent balloons. The printer and the automatic print feeder produce 1500 balloons/hour with print in two places. The system is tightly controlled with only the balloon hopper level to be maintained.
