Technology developed by the Defence Evaluation and Research Agency (Dera) to generate electricity through walking will be tested by inventor Trevor Baylis when he treks 100 miles across the Namibian Desert. Baylis plans to speak to Tony Blair in the first telephone call on a mobile phone powered by walking energy. Dera has converted mechanical energy by installing a piezoelectric device in the heel of a shoe.
