Jaguar’s next generation smaller car, the X400, could be built at Dagenham, Essex, or Halewood, Merseyside, following the company’s decision this week to rule out sites at Coventry.

But industry watchers see sites in the US or Germany as the most likely recipients of the investment.

Jaguar said this week that a feasibility study had shown it would be too costly to build the X400 at Jaguar’s plants at Browns Lane and Castle Bromwich.
