Britain’s Vosper Thornycroft and Yarrow Shipbuilders are among several shipyards chasing a Philippines’ order for three offshore patrol vessels worth more than £100m.

At last week’s Imdex Asia exhibition in Singapore both yards confirmed they were among 20-plus yards which had registered interest in the contract. A shortlist of four to eight is being drawn up.

The contract covers a 15-year programme for the local construction of two ships followed by three missile-equipped corvettes using the same basic hull as the chosen OPV design.
