BTR Siebe is to close one of its Serck valves plants in the UK with the loss of 148 jobs. The move comes as part of a review of operations at the recently-merged engineering group.

Shropshire-based Serck Audco Valves, a specialist in aluminium and bronze valves, had been hit by the downturn in the oil, gas and minerals market. The plant’s production will be transferred to other plants in the UK and abroad.

Workers at the plant, one of the major employers in the area, said they were `shocked’ by the news.

* BTR Siebe will today (Friday) seek shareholder approval for its new name, Invensys.
