Two vertical pumps under construction at Sulzer Roteq’s factory in Leeds. Sulzer has won a £1.5m order to manufacture four similar pump sets for a joint venture between ABB and JGC, who are building a chemical and power complex on Seraya Island, Singapore. The pumps, which are made of nickel aluminium bronze with K-monel shafts, will be used to lift seawater to be used as a coolant in the plant. Each pump can lift 10,000m3 of water per hour against a 58m head. The contract also includes the supply of a 2,100rpm electric motor as well as drivers and couplings. Shipment is due in August 2000.
