A venture capital firm has been set up to invest in companies developing technology for mobile phones, interactive television and the internet. Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin group of companies and the US investment bank Bear Stearns are both to put £8m into the fund, and another £80m will be raised externally. Former BBC director-general Sir John Birt has been appointed non-executive chairman.
