Intel has entered into an agreement to acquire Oplus Technologies, a privately held fabless semiconductor company based in Yokneam, Israel.
Founded by Dr. Yosef Segman – who was CEO until September 2002 – Oplus is a developer of video processors for flat panel plasma and LCD-TVs, projection systems and LCD multi-function monitors.
It currently sells three lines of these processors – Rembrandt, Matisse and Monet – as well as reference designs and manufacturing kits.
Intel said that it was acquiring the company because it viewed the company’s technology as key to allowing manufacturers of digital televisions and digital displays to differentiate their products.
The company, which has approximately 100 employees, will continue selling products under the Oplus brand name and will report into the Intel Consumer Electronics Group. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
