Getting tough on the elements

THK has just launched two linear motion products. One is designed to function for long periods under water and the other is intended for applications that involve exposure to intense heat.

The M1 high temperature LM guides can, says THK, operate at temperatures of up to 150°C. Featuring stainless steel endplates and temperature resistant rubber seals, the guides are said to remain fluid in motion and are specially treated to minimise heat-induced changes in dimension. The lubricant used is fluorine based high-temperature grease.

At the other end of the spectrum the HSR M2 linear guide is said to be perfect for submerged and moisture prone applications. The rail, carriage and balls are all made from a high corrosion resistant stainless steel, and in test conditions, over 24 hours at different combinations of temperature and a humidity of 95%, the guide, says THK, demonstrated corrosion resistance far superior to conventional stainless steel guides.
