Packing a punch

Calex’s new Convir IL non-contact infrared temperature sensor is a little like a champion lightweight boxer: small in stature but very tough and intelligent in its field.

Calex’s new Convir IL Series non-contact infrared temperature sensor is a little like a champion lightweight boxer: small in stature – 105mm long and 25mm in diameter – but very tough and very intelligent in its field.

Made with a polished stainless steel housing and sealed to IP65, the sensor’s temperature range can be adjusted between –20°C and 500°C and has an emissivity setting between 0.1 to 1.0 to suit different materials.

After loading the CalexLink software provided onto a PC and plugging the D connector into the PC’s parallel port, users are said to be able to read instantaneous, maximum, minimum and average temperatures in degrees centigrade or Fahrenheit.

Once the configuration is saved to the sensor the PC can be disconnected. Unlike other programmable sensors, there is said to be no need for an expensive adapter or interface cable and no need to connect an external power source at the D connector during configuration.
