Dresser-Rand has won several orders from BP to supply power generation equipment to BP’s Deep Water Development Program in the Gulf of Mexico.
The orders are for Dresser-Rand DR61G turbo generator sets powered by GE LM2500 gas turbines, which drive Siemens electrical generators. The equipment will be supplied by Dresser-Rand’s Norwegian operations in Kongsberg and Drammen
BP has placed security of supply orders for a total of 14 such units. The initial production release is for three units scheduled for delivery mid-2002, with the balance of releases projected over the next two to three years.
The orders have been placed under the Rotating Equipment Initiative (REI) agreement between BP and Dresser-Rand, which covers the global supply of centrifugal compressor packages and power generation equipment for upstream service.
At approximately $120 million for all 14 units, this is the largest single commitment made with Dresser-Rand under the REI agreement.
The order for Deep Development power generation follows a number of compressor orders for other BP projects in the United States and Gulf of Mexico as well as purchase of two similar turbo generator sets for the Norwegian sector of the North Sea.
