Atmel and Silicon Wave develop reference for Bluetooth

Atmel Corporation and Silicon Wave have compled a PC Card reference design for Bluetooth communications.

Incorporating Silicon Wave’s Odyssey SiW1502 Radio Modem integrated circuit (IC) and Atmel’s Pluton baseband IC, the PC Card reference design will be Bluetooth spec 1.1 compliant. The two-chip solution addresses the industry’s need for low-cost and quick time to market for notebook PCs.

Original equipment manufacturers can get the complete reference design, including schematics, firmware, software and bill of materials, directly from both Atmel and Silicon Wave. The reference design includes the Odyssey SiW1502 Radio Modem chip from Silicon Wave and Atmel’s AT76C551 ARM7TDMI baseband processor, featuring an integrated PCMCIA controller. External flash memory, an integrated antenna and external discrete components complete the reference design.

The complete system provides all RF functions, a Gaussian Frequency Shift Key (GFSK) modem and a baseband processor, which manages the communications links and implements the Bluetooth baseband functions.
