Come on ed — do you really think referees are biased? (The Big Picture, 14 January).

The blame for all the errors made in football matches should be laid entirely at the feet of the players.

Please, please, please get someone to analyse mistakes such as wrong passes, miscontrol, misdirection of passes and wrong options made by footballers against  referee errors during any match. Then — and only then — should you allow anyone to comment on the use of technology to ‘bash’ the referees’ decisions.

We have been through this exercise before and were astounded at the results. One way to get a clear picture is by using a method similar to American football analysis to determine percentage passes completed and other plays. This would show who on the pitch made the most errors.

As you might have gathered I am an ex-referee who knows the laws of the game inside out.

You could, of course, send on Alex Ferguson — he has no referee’s qualification, but then he is only a manager.

Thank you for a great magazine.
