Enabling next-generation optical networking

Agilent Technologies has introduced two new 43G Bit Error Ratio (BER) test systems that support emerging 40 Gb/s technology.

These test systems will enable semiconductor, component and equipment manufacturers to analyse the actual BER introduced by individual 40 Gb/s components, line-cards or complete systems that will be deployed in US standard OC-768 or European standard STM-256 transmission lines.

The Agilent ParBERT 81250 43G, which tests electrical devices such as 16:1 muxes/demuxes, and the Agilent BERT E2150A 43G electrical/optical system, which tests optical devices, are the two most essential systems for testing 40G transmission lines.

The Agilent ParBERT 81250 43G is available today. The serial 43G BERT system costs $900,000.00 and includes the E4894A 43.2G Pattern Generator Bundle and E4895A 43.2G Error Detector Bundle. The Agilent BERT E2150A 43G electrical/optical system also is available to order today and is currently shipping. The cost is $1.35 million for a C- or L- Band Optical Test System or $1.4 million for a C+L Band Optical Test System.
