FERA appoints general secretary

John Fletcher, former UK managing director of Unbrako, has been appointed general secretary of the recently formed Fastener Engineering and Research Association. FERA president Bob Stevens was delighted by the appointment, saying: `…John’s enthusiasm and his unrivalled expertise in our industry makes him the ideal choice to drive FERA forward into the new millennium.’

What next for woman of the year?

Valerie Randle, who last year won the title of Welsh Woman of the Year, has been promoted to personal professor in the Department of Metals Engineering at the University of Swansea. Only a tiny proportion of professors in engineering and technology fields are women, and Professor Randle is keen to increase the profile of female engineers.

New man at Warth

Mike Jay has been appointed sales and marketing director of Warth. With degrees in both physics and marketing, Jay has been in shielding and thermal product management for almost twenty years. It is hoped that he will continue the international expansion of the company’s electromagnetic shielding and thermal management solutions.
