Hitachi-LG Data Storage (HLDS), a joint venture between LG Electronics and Hitachi of Japan, says that it is the first in the world to develop a Multi Writable DVD drive.
The Multi Writable DVD drive can accommodate both DVD-RW and DVD-RAM which, up to now, were not interoperable due to lack of standards.
The new product is fully compatible with DVD players, can write/playback DVD-RAM and DVD-RW that are used in DVD recorders as well as DVD-R used for image distribution.
It can also write and playback DVD-RAM for PCs. In addition, it can write on CD-R or CD-RW.
The new DVD drive, dubbed the GMA-4120B, will enter the market in January 2002.
