Delcam, the UK’s largest manufacturing software developer, has pledged to donate a £4,000 ArtCAM Pro software package to every secondary school in the UK.
The Birmingham-based engineering software firm’s generous £20m pre-Christmas announcement has come as a boost for the government’s CAD/CAM initiative, set-up to raise the profile of engineering in schools.
The donation was announced at the city technology college in Telford, which worked closely with Delcam to develop a school version of the package.
Delcam managing director Clive Martell said: `CAD-CAM is the cornerstone of modern manufacturing. The experience of making their own designs will encourage children to consider careers in manufacturing.’
