Perkins plays it safe

Fatigue analysis software designer Safe Technology has sealed a five-figure deal to supply specialist computer software to Peterborough-based engine maker Perkins.

Perkins will use extended durability analysis technology and software for engine component design, developed in a £650,000 Department of Trade and Industry-backed project with car maker Rover.

The Sheffield-based company, part-owned by the investment arm of Corus, British Steel (Industry), supplies engineering companies worldwide.

Managing director John Draper said the firm is also designing medical joint replacements and is exploring aerospace markets.
